Inis Oirr (Inisheer) means ‘Island Of The East’ and is the smallest of the three Aran Islands. The size of the Island is about 3 km by 2 km and there are about 300 people living here today. We can’t possibly say enough about this charming place, it is very special and happens to be one of our favourites! This Island truly has something for everyone.
It now takes only 15 minutes to get from Doolin to Inis Oirr. Doolin Ferry Co. operates the largest and fastest ferry fleet from Doolin. We sail daily from March to early November at 10:00, 11:00, 13:00, 14:30 (and 17:00pm for overnights and one ways). There is an extra early 9:00am sailing from Doolin to Inis Oirr from June 3rd to August 27th only. We sail from Inis Oirr to Doolin at 10:30, 11:30, 14:15 and 16:45 every day.

This island is just a short 15 minute hop from Doolin. So you can easily head out to the Island for few hours, a day trip, or overnight.
Visitors can travel around the Island by bicycle, mini-bus, and pony & trap tours. When you arrive you will meet a variety of these tour options located at the top of the pier. If you prefer a quick sightseeing option you also can also explore O’Brien’s Castle and Teampall Chaomháin by foot which is just a short walk from the beach area.
There are so many ways to enjoy this wonderful Island, it truly has something for everyone. From art exhibitions in the Áras Éanna cultural centre, historical ruins and holy wells, the Lighthouse, to picnics and nightly music sessions at one of the three Island pubs. There are also unique events that take place over the summer months such as a Seafood Buffet nights and concerts. So it’s no wonder that the Irish College here every summer is a popular choice for the country’s budding Irish speakers.
You need anywhere from two hours to a full day or overnight to visit the island. Because it’s relatively small and with its close location to Doolin Pier, it makes a great option for a relaxing, hassle free, and enjoyable day trip. The name Inisheer is often used interchangeably with Inis Oírr, and both names are commonly used to refer to this charming island off the coast of Ireland.
The main pier where the ferry arrives is located next to a beautiful white sandy beach that welcomes you. O’Brien’s Castle stands proudly on the hill behind the beach and playground area, it is a warm welcome indeed.
This is a fantastic place for families. This is because it’s just a short ferry ride from Doolin and small enough to enjoy a good visit in only a few hours. There is also a newly built playground which is included in the top 10 playgrounds in Ireland with swings, slides, bridges and benches for parents too! It is located just behind the beach making it an ideal area for picnicking. Located just behind the playground area you will see the AstroTurf sporting pitch recently installed. Doolin Ferry Co. For Father Ted fans no trip to Inis Oirr is complete without seeing the very famous Plassey Shipwreck. The remains of this freighter that washed ashore here in 1960 and so now it has become one of the most famous photo spots on the Aran Islands.
The ancient church and castle ruins are on full display from almost anywhere on this island. After a day of walking, biking and sightseeing you can relax at the beach or enjoy some refreshments in one of the three pubs.

This is a great boat trip to see the Cliffs of Moher. The guide was very knowledgeable but was hard to hear. Would recommend this cliffs of moher cruise.
